The excitement surrounding Panorama 2026 continues to build as the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) officially launched this year’s competition and presented a cheque valued at $165,000 to the Antigua and Barbuda Pan Association.

While the formal launch took place on Saturday, many pan enthusiasts would argue that the season began weeks earlier with the now traditional Panorama launch event hosted by defending champions Hells Gate Steel Orchestra on May 30.
Themed “Riddim Up, Carnival in the Big Yard,” the event attracted pan lovers from across the island and showcased performances from the steel orchestras preparing for this year’s competition. Most incorporated the 2026 Panorama selection into their presentations, giving patrons an early glimpse of the musical rivalries expected to define the season.
Momentum continued with the successful staging of Pan in the City on Saturday 20 June, which transformed Redcliffe Street into a vibrant celebration of steelpan music, culture, and community spirit, further heightening anticipation for what remains one of Antigua Carnival’s most anticipated events.
Against that backdrop, the ABFC used Saturday’s launch to reaffirm its commitment to the steelband movement, presenting a cheque for $165,000 to the Antigua and Barbuda Pan Association. The payment forms part of a three-year agreement between the organizations, now in its final year, and represents a significant investment in one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most enduring cultural traditions.

Addressing the launch, Minister of Sports and Creative Industries Honourable Dwayne George praised State Insurance Company Limited for its longstanding partnership and support of Panorama. He said, “Today, we celebrate the power of steelpan through nine steel bands representing nine communities across our nation,” George said. “Every pan yard is a space where talent is nurtured, friendships are formed, and our cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.”
Looking to the future, the minister expressed hope that the movement will continue to expand beyond its current footprint. “My vision is for that number to grow. I look forward to the day when we have ten steel bands, including one from St Mary’s. Mark my words,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of State Insurance Company Limited, Aarion Nicholas, said the company’s support reflects a belief in the importance of preserving and strengthening the steelpan movement. “Panorama is more than a competition. It is a celebration of discipline, creativity, community pride, and cultural excellence,” Nicholas said. “We are proud to continue our partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission and the Antigua and Barbuda Pan Association as we help preserve and grow the steelpan movement for future generations.”

With just weeks remaining before Panorama 2026, activity is expected to intensify in panyards across Antigua as arrangers and musicians fine-tune their performances for what promises to be another fiercely contested competition.
For many pan enthusiasts, however, the journey to Panorama is every bit as important as the final performance on stage. In the weeks ahead, supporters will make their way to panyards across the country to follow the progress of their favourite bands, listening closely as arrangements evolve and the strengths and weaknesses of each orchestra begin to emerge.
It is also anticipated that organised pan crawls will again be part of the season, giving patrons the opportunity to experience multiple bands in rehearsal and engage in the spirited debate that accompanies Panorama every year. Among the steelband faithful, few activities are more enjoyable than attempting to identify the leading contenders long before competition night.
Beyond the rivalry and the quest for championship honours, Panorama continues to serve a deeper purpose. Across the country, community steel orchestras engage hundreds of young people in a disciplined, creative, and collaborative pursuit that strengthens communities, preserves cultural heritage, enhances academic excellence, and provides a positive outlet for talent and self-expression.
As the countdown to August 1 continues, pan lovers are being encouraged to support their community bands throughout the rehearsal season, recognizing that the value of the steelband movement extends far beyond the eventual declaration of a winning orchestra.

The State Insurance Company Limited Panorama 2026 is scheduled for Emancipation Day, August 1, when the nation’s steel orchestras will once again take centre stage in a celebration of music, community, creativity, and cultural pride.
Best wishes to all the bands!
