Home Momentum Meets an Unbeaten Test

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons have found their rhythm at home, winning two from two and beginning to turn the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium into precisely what captain Moeen Ali said he wanted it to become: a fortress.

Tonight, perhaps the strongest test yet arrives. The Guyana Amazon Warriors come in unbeaten, while the Falcons enter with three wins from five matches and the confidence of back-to-back home victories.

For Team Falcons, then, this is about more than protecting a perfect home record. It is another opportunity to strengthen their position in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League and prove that the momentum building around this team has substance.

How the Falcons Found Their Footing

The Falcons’ campaign has not been without its bumps.

After a winning, heart-stopping encounter, the Falcons faced the sting of close defeats, including a four-run loss to the Saint Lucia Kings. Since returning home, however, the picture has changed.

First came victory over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Then came a five-wicket defeat of defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders.

That result revealed plenty about this Falcons side. TKR had raced to 73 for one in the Power Play and appeared capable of pushing towards 200. Instead, the Falcons absorbed the punishment, took wickets and dragged the visitors back to 165 for six.

Then, after their own uncertain beginning with the bat, Kusal Perera and Shadab Khan took over.

Shadab’s unbeaten 52 from just 20 deliveries, combined with remarkable bowling figures of one for eight from four overs, produced one of the outstanding individual performances of the Falcons’ campaign.

His influence is becoming increasingly important.

Encouragingly, the Falcons are not dependent on one player heading into the Guyana encounter.

Evin Lewis leads their run-scoring with 113 runs, with Rakheem Cornwall on 91, while the bowling has been led by Shamar Springer with eight wickets and Alzarri Joseph with seven.

Joshua James has added another dimension. His two for 23 against TKR included the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard, an important intervention after the Knight Riders’ blistering start.

Different men are putting their hands up at different times.

That variety will matter against Guyana.

The Guyana Challenge

Moeen knows the Amazon Warriors particularly well, having spent the previous two seasons with the franchise. Following the victory over TKR, he made no attempt to understate what awaits.

“They’re a very, very good side. They’re a brilliant, brilliant team, brilliant set-up, the way they go about things. So I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully get another win.”

A Contest in the Stands

The intrigue, however, will not be limited to the field. There is a particular flavour whenever Antigua and Barbuda and Guyana meet in cricket in Antigua.

With a comparatively large Guyanese community resident in Antigua and Barbuda, supplemented by visiting Warriors supporters, these encounters have often taken on the character of a two-home-team contest.

Guyana supporters are traditionally strong, vocal and unmistakably present. They will arrive in their numbers and their colours, determined to make the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium sound a little less like a Falcons fortress.

On the other side will be the Antigua massive, increasingly invested in a Falcons team that has given them two victories to celebrate in two home outings.

That contest in the stands could provide a fascinating soundtrack to the cricket.

The cheers for a Falcons boundary may be answered moments later by a roar for a Warriors wicket. Flags, music and competing pockets of support should give this fixture an atmosphere quite different from the Falcons’ first two home matches.

All of that makes this an even sharper test of Moeen’s fortress. “We want to make this… a fortress and a very tough place to come and play.”

Tonight, keeping that fortress intact will require the Falcons faithful to play our part. The Falcons have yet to lose at home; the Warriors have yet to lose. And inside a stadium where both teams can reasonably expect to hear their names roared from the stands, one of the most intriguing contests of the Antigua leg awaits.
