January 21, 2026 – The Leeward Islands Stormers have powered into the finals of the CWI Women’s T20 Blaze, a position head coach Percy Daniel has described as “uncharted territory” for the programme. “What is happening now is uncharted territory for the Leeward Islands senior women’s team. We haven’t been in this position over the period of time we’ve been part of this tournament, so it’s a new experience for us.”
With one preliminary match remaining tonight against the Windward Islands, the Stormers have already secured their place in the finals following a flawless run through the group stage. What remains is not qualification, but the opportunity to complete a clean sweep and carry an unbeaten record into the business end of the competition.
While delighted with the team’s four-from-four start, Daniel has been careful to stress that results alone will not be enough when the stakes rise. He emphasized that, “At this stage, it’s sometimes more psychological than physical. The team that is able to deal with the pressures of the moment is often the team that is successful.”
For the Stormers, the challenge ahead is to pair their outstanding on-field execution with the mental toughness required when margins tighten, and expectations grow. The unity has been evident, and that sense of collective purpose has been the defining feature of the Stormers’ campaign. Their dominance has not rested on one performance or one player, but on clarity of roles, disciplined planning, and visible leadership throughout the squad.

The Stormers’ unbeaten run has been built on disciplined bowling, improved fielding, and calm leadership, allowing them to consistently dictate terms even in low-scoring, high-pressure contests. At the centre of the campaign has been captain Amanda Edwards, whose all-round influence with bat and ball has anchored the side through key moments. Her decisive spells have strangled opposition chases, while her batting contributions have steadied innings when required.

Shawnisha Hector delivered the tournament’s defining batting performance with a commanding half-century against Jamaica, announcing the Stormers as genuine contenders early in the campaign, before reinforcing that impact with controlled bowling spells.

The bowling unit has been relentless. Davronique Maynard has consistently been incisive, repeatedly breaking partnerships at critical stages. Jahzara Claxton’s composure under pressure, both in the field and during crucial run chases, has further underlined the Stormers’ growing maturity.

With the bat, Reniece Boyce has played the role of stabiliser to perfection, producing composed, innings-defining knocks when early wickets fell, most notably her controlled half-century against Guyana. Qiana Joseph’s sharp, high-impact cameos have supplied momentum at key junctures, lifting run rates and pushing totals beyond reach.

Above all, this has been a campaign defined by unity. Sharp fielding, clear plans, and collective belief have transformed narrow margins into victories. The Stormers have not relied on one hero; they have relied on each other. That balance has carried them, unbeaten, into the finals and firmly established them as genuine title contenders.
