Princess Margaret Sweeps 2026 Interschool Championships

March 16, 2026 – The curtain fell on the 2026 National Interschool Track and Field Championships at the YASCO Sports Complex with Princess Margaret School (PMS) once again asserting its dominance, capturing both the boys’ and girls’ championships after four days of high-quality competition, record performances, and emerging athletic talent.

When the final points were tallied, Princess Margaret School secured the girls’ title with 268.5 points, finishing comfortably ahead of St Anthony’s Secondary School with 179 points, while Antigua Girls’ High School placed third with 125 points. Pares Secondary followed closely with 123 points, with All Saints Secondary rounding out the top five with 93 points.

In the boys’ division, Princess Margaret School also finished on top with 227.5 points, successfully defending its title. Antigua Grammar School finished second with 151 points, while St Joseph’s Academy secured third place with 143 points. ABCAS finished fourth with 138 points, closely followed by All Saints Secondary with 133 points, highlighting the intense competition in the boys’ division.

The four-day championships once again proved why Interschool Track and Field remains the premier stage for school athletics in Antigua and Barbuda, producing standout performances across multiple disciplines and showcasing the next generation of elite athletes.

Among the athletes who left the strongest mark on the championships was Tyra Fenton of St Anthony’s Secondary School, who was named Best Overall Female Athlete after a dominant series of performances in the Under-20 division. Fenton captured gold in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres, clocking impressive times of 11.50 seconds in the 100m, 23.22 seconds in the 200m, and 53.27 seconds in the 400m.

On the boys’ side, Geron Henry of Princess Margaret School earned the title of Best Overall Male Athlete, highlighted by his commanding performance in the 400 metres, where he recorded a time of 48.77 seconds.

Several athletes also distinguished themselves through consistent scoring performances across their divisions. Na’tascia Hunte of Princess Margaret School topped the Under-15 girls’ division, winning the 100m, 200m and Long Jump, while Lennox Benjamin of Clare Hall Secondary dominated the Under-15 boys’ division, claiming victories in the 400m, 800m and 1500m.

In the Under-17 division, Jaeda Pigott of St Anthony’s Secondary School produced one of the most impressive distance campaigns of the meet, winning the 400m, 800m, and 1500m, while Shawnzee Joseph of Jennings Secondary emerged as the leading Under-17 male athlete with victories in the 800m and 1500m and strong performances in the longer distances.

The championships also highlighted several outstanding field event performances. Rolesha Humphreys of Princess Margaret School claimed the Girls Under-17 Long Jump title, while Julissa Robinson of Clare Hall Secondary captured the Open Girls Triple Jump.

In the relay events, the Girls Open 4×400 metre relay produced a new championship record, with St Anthony’s Secondary School storming to victory in 3:59.81, while Ottos Comprehensive School captured the Boys Open 4×400 metre relay title in 3:35.43.

Distance running also drew attention during the championships, with Jaeda Pigott and Shawnzee Joseph receiving special recognition for the best distance performances.

Over four days, nearly 700 athletes from ABCAS and 16 secondary schools competed in track and field events, creating a championship marked by fierce school rivalries, new records, and memorable individual performances.

With the final medals awarded and the championships wrapped up, the performances at YASCO once again confirmed how important Interschool Track and Field is for identifying and nurturing the nation’s future top athletes. 

The focus now shifts to the Carifta Athletic Games next month, where the efforts made at Interschool might soon turn into national pride.
