HoneyBee Theatre is off to take Broadway by storm this summer.

HoneyB Theatre Group

July 9, 2025 – Under the leadership of founder and principal director Zahra Airall, members of the club and theatre students from other schools will be attending a Broadway workshop and tour in New York. The students will participate in workshops with Broadway professionals, see three Broadway shows, tour the Lincoln Theatre, and participate in a few tourist activities, including a visit to the Six Flags Theme Park.

This tour was originally planned for summer 2020, but we all remember what paused all plans that year. Happy to have some of the original members of that trip on board this time, Airall also welcomes new members and students from other schools. Additionally, CAPE Drama students from the Antigua State College will also be participating as well as members of the Elite Dancers. Airall shared that “this is something that I have wanted to do ever since studying for my master’s degree. I’d like to make it a biennial activity that performing arts students can look forward to. Hopefully in 2027 when we do Chicago we’ll have more drama, dance and music students who can participate in the respective workshops. Not only is this experience an exciting one, but as performing arts students they will be exposed to careers that are possible within and outside of Antigua and Barbuda; they will also get the opportunity to train with professionals in the respective fields.

HoneyB Theatre in Action – Whisper in Wallings

Recent awardee at the National CSEC Awards, Emya Geness, expressed, “It’s a dream come true – an experience that my 12 year old self was looking forward to from since 2020, and I can’t wait to delve deeper into the world of Theatre and capture a sneak peek of what my life would look like as I wait in the wings!” Geness joined the HoneyBee Theatre in September 2019 when she began her tutelage at the Antigua Girls’ High School. She has had several starring roles, including LA Djablesse in Whispers in Wallings, and was the president of the club in her final year of AGHS. She is currently enrolled at the Antigua State College and is anxiously awaiting her results for the 2025 CAPE Drama exams. At this year’s CSEC Awards, Geness was recognised for placing in the region’s top 10 for CSEC Theatre Arts.

Ms. Airall extended her gratitude to the parents of the students, some of whom are part of the delegation, the corporate community that supported the many fundraising initiatives, and her colleague teachers who stood and shared in the planning and execution of this initiative.

About HoneyBee Theatre
HoneyBee Theatre was formally established in 2015 as the Theatre Arts Club of the Antigua Girls High School. Although its hub is at the school, the club has welcomed members from various schools, including boys. The NYC Broadway trip aligns perfectly with the group’s 10-year celebrations.
