The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium was the stage for an engaging battle in Match 7 of the 2025 Caribbean Premier League on Wednesday night. By the time the final ball was bowled, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons had carved their names into CPL folklore. In a heart-pounding finish, the Falcons clipped the mighty Trinidad & Tobago Knight Riders by eight runs, sending fans into wild celebration and lifting themselves to the top of the table.
Fourteen runs were needed off the last over with Kieron Pollard prowling at the crease. Most of the spectators were on the edge of their seats with flags waving and the odds seemingly tilted for a Knight Riders heist. Having earned a life earlier with a dropped catch, pundits felt it would be almost routine for the power-hitter who has made a career out of crushing bowling attacks under pressure. But fate and Falcon fire had other plans.

Enter Shamar Springer. Young and fearless, almost David-like, unshaken by the giant before him, Springer unleashed a masterclass in death bowling. Mixing up his lengths, denying Pollard the sweet spot, and holding his nerve, he bowled a heroic over, leading to a glorious Falcons triumph. When Pollard could only scramble four off the final ball, Sir Viv erupted; the Falcons had stopped the Knight Riders in their tracks, successfully defending 167 runs.
Earlier, at the crease, it had been challenging for the Falcons, reduced to 77/5 in the 14th over, staring down the barreluntil Fabian Allen, all swagger and steel, blasting 45 off just 20 balls. His late fireworks, which included three boundariesand three towering sixes, transformed a modest total into a fighting score. It wasn’t just runs; it was belief, injected into the veins of every Falcon and every fan throughout the stadium.
And then came the man of the moment with the ball Obed McCoy. Fast, fierce, and clinical, McCoy ripped through the Knight Riders with a golden spell. His 4/39 included the crucial dismissals of Colin Munro and Alex Hales, both in the same over, ripping the momentum out of the visitors’ chase. For his brilliance, McCoy deservedly walked away with the Player of the Match award, but more importantly, he injured the Knight. Riders halting their march to the finish line.
For Nicholas Pooran and the Knight Riders, it was another night of “so near, yet so far.” Contributions from Pooran, Keacy Carty, and Darren Bravo promised much but fizzled quickly, leaving too much for Pollard to do at the death. His flurry of seven boundaries gave Knight Riders fans hope, but in the end, it was Springer’s ice-cool execution that sealed the deal to the delight of a jubilant home crowd.
With this victory, the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons have signalled their intent to be a force in this second season. Four matches in and the team has demonstrated depth and variety, a good mix of players rising the standard boldly and answering to duty’s call.
Last night’s win serves as a powerful rallying call to the sons and daughters of the home of the franchise. The message clear! This is your team, your moment, your tournament. Pack the stands, raise your voices, and let the world know: the Falcons are flying high, and every game from here on is a battle cry for the Falcons Force.
