Adonis Humphreys has cemented his place as one of the most dominant forces in local basketball, commanding the paint with authority and leading by example for Ez Fit Flyers.
Built on strength, athleticism, and defensive intensity, his presence on the court shifts momentum. Rebounds find him. Shots fear him. Teammates feed off his energy.
Adonis played a central role in guiding Ez Fit Flyers to their third consecutive ABBA Championship title, completing a remarkable three-peat. His impact went far beyond numbers, but the numbers themselves were staggering. He led both the league and playoffs in rebounds and blocks, earning League Most Valuable Player and Playoffs Most Valuable Player honours.
He did not just contribute. He controlled games.
His dominance extended into the Business League Basketball competition, where he led the Board of Education to an undefeated championship campaign. Once again, he topped the league in blocks and was named Playoffs Most Valuable Player.

Different jersey. Same authority.
One of his greatest challenges this past year was time management. With growing responsibilities off the court, balancing individual training, recovery, rest, and competition demanded strict discipline.
Elite performance requires more than talent. It requires structure. Despite increased demands, Adonis remained committed to maintaining peak condition and competitive sharpness.
Reflecting on the year, he describes the feeling as elated. Achieving the club’s first three-peat and joining the ranks of historically dominant teams is a milestone that will echo for years to come. The Flyers made history, and Adonis stood at the centre of it.
Being recognised as Senior Men’s Athlete of the Year for Basketball is an honour he deeply values. For Adonis, it represents not only his own sacrifices but also the unwavering support of family, teammates, coaches, and friends who have sustained his journey. He acknowledges that while individual performances receive attention, the support systems behind great athletes often remain unseen.
If named Sportsman of the Year, the honour would carry even greater significance. He notes that in basketball, such recognition has only previously been achieved by Mr. Carl Knight. To be placed in that company would represent entry into an elite category and stand as one of the highest distinctions an athlete in Antigua and Barbuda can attain.
On the court, Adonis Humphreys dominates space. In history, he is carving his own.
The 2025 National Sports Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 1, 2026, at the American University of Antigua under the theme “Celebrating Excellence in Sports.”
At last year’s 32nd edition, rising track star Tyra Fenton of the Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association secured the Junior Sportswoman of the Year title, while cricketer Jewel Andrew of the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association claimed Junior Sportsman of the Year honours. In the senior categories, IFBB Pro Bikini Fitness Ambassador Kimberly Percival earned her fifth Sportswoman of the Year crown, and West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph captured his third Sportsman of the Year title.
As another class of elite nominees prepares to gather, the stage is once again set to celebrate achievement, resilience, and the athletes who continue to elevate Antigua and Barbuda on regional and international platforms.
