First Gold Medalist at Commonwealth Youth Games – Tahir Walsh

September 9, 2011 – Tahir Walsh wins 100-meter gold and 200-meter silver at the Commonwealth Youth Games. It was Antigua and Barbuda’s first gold medal at at the Commonwealth Youth Games. He won the 100-m in a time of 10.50 (w) and the 200-m in 21.66(w). For his outstanding performance he was awarded Sportsman of the Year for 2011.

Tahir Jelani Walsh is one of Antigua and Barbuda’s elite athlete who has had mixed fortunes on the track. He is a sprinter specialising in 100-meter and 200-meter. His career has been plagued wit injuries compounded with limited financial and other support.

He is a two-time 100-m Carifta Bronze medalist (2010, 2013). He also won Bronze in the CAC Junior Championship in 2010.

He was the most outstanding male athlete at the 2011 Interschool track and field championship where he represented the St. Joseph’s Academy. At school he was a well-rounded athlete participating in football, volleyball and cricket in addition to track and field events.

His Personal Best times are 10.16 (Miami Florida, April 2021) and 200-m 20.84 (C-USA Championships EL Paso, 2017).

Tahir is currently enlisted in the US Army.

He is the son of Hayden Walsh Sr and Christolyn Walsh.
