December 3rd, 1981 – Jamale L. Pringle was born to Rolston Pringle and Jean Paige-Jarvis and raised in the village of Swetes. He began his early education at the Swetes Primary School, then moved on to the All Saints Secondary School and the Antigua State College. As a child, some of his most vivid memories include “hanging on the block” with friends, climbing or “stoning” mango trees, and going fishing in ponds for callie fish, simple moments that grounded his sense of community and belonging.
Pringle’s professional life began in education as an Industrial Arts Teacher. He first taught at the Irene B. Williams Secondary School, followed by the All Saints Secondary and Pares Secondary Schools. While at Pares, he was selected to pursue formal teacher training at the Antigua State College. Upon completing the programme, he was placed at the Clare Hall Secondary School, which would be his final teaching assignment before transitioning into other areas of service.
A self-described self-starter, Pringle credits his entrepreneurial spirit for leading him into business. He later established Wadali Event Services Ltd. (WES) – an event-planning, management, and equipment-rental company. “I always had that entrepreneurial spirit and that drive to make my own money… I saw the need for a business like this. The market was open. And I put my ideas on paper, then into effect.”
The Political Journey
In March 2018, Jamale Pringle added a significant milestone to his career when he was elected to the Lower House of Representatives. He was the only United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate to win his seat in that year’s general election, securing the All Saints East & St. Luke Constituency by just ten votes.
Following the January 18, 2023, general elections, in which former UPP Political Leader Harold Lovell again lost his seat and subsequently resigned as party leader, Pringle, who retained his own parliamentary seat, was sworn in on January 25, 2023, as Her Majesty’s Leader of the Opposition for Antigua and Barbuda and interim leader of the UPP.
On April 21, 2024, Pringle reached another defining moment in his political ascent when he was elected Political Leader of the United Progressive Party. His victory, 237 votes to 173 over Richard Lewis during the Party’s 12th Biennial Conference, came at the end of a bruising internal campaign, in which several sitting MPs and constituency caretakers openly opposed his candidacy. Despite the internal tensions, Pringle emerged with a sweeping mandate and full authority to lead the UPP into its next chapter.
Leadership Philosophy and Legacy in Motion
Hon. Pringle notes that his entry into politics has deepened his sense of empathy and patience. As one of the nation’s younger parliamentarians, he believes he has helped to spark greater political interest among young people. He makes every effort to remain accessible: “I find the time to listen because they will be ‘me’ one day. I want to be one of the factors that help to mould and motivate them to achieve their goals.”
In service to his constituents, Pringle continues to champion his vision of transforming All Saints East & St. Luke into a model constituency, a community defined by improved infrastructure, better services, and expanded socio-economic opportunities.
Time Capsule Reflection
Hon. Jamale L. Pringle envisions Antigua and Barbuda becoming a nation where ‘each endeavor and all achieve.’ A place that prospers, evolves, and consistently makes space for its people to succeed. From climbing mango trees in Swetes to rising through the ranks of national leadership, his journey exemplifies resilience, aspiration, and a strong dedication to community.
