Dale Destin

October 26, 1969 – Dale Destin was born to Carsteta (aka Curlita) Edwards of St. Georges Street and Earl (aka Boysie) Destin of Point Wharf. He spent his formative years between Point, Villa, and Green Bay.
He attended the Villa Primary and Princess Margaret Schools.
Dale’s first job was as a joiner with Pigott’s Woodwork & Furniture for one year, from 1987 to 1988.
He completed a Certificate in Meteorological Forecasting Credit  (1995 – 1996)  at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology.  He was awarded the WMO Fellowship in 2003 to pursue undergraduate studies in Meteorology at the University of the West Indies. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Mathematics, and Information Technology with First Class Honours. This accomplishment is unprecedented in that it remains the only triple major ever issued in the over 60-year history of the University of the West Indies. Dale received the Dean’s Special Prize in 2006.

He received the HED USAID Scholarship in 2013 to pursue postgraduate studies in Climate and Society at Columbia University in the City of New York as a Graduate Research Fellow. He completed a Master of Arts in Climate and Society in 2014. His research was on the predictability of sub-seasonal rainfall in the Eastern Caribbean using statistical methods. This includes assessing the predictability of dry days, rainfall days, and extreme daily rainfall events. The potential outcomes could have significant benefits across several sectors, including agriculture and food security, water resource management, disaster risk reduction, and health.

Dale completed a Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership in  2011 from Brighton School of Business & Management.

Mr. Destin has been employed with the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service (ABMS) for 24 years, serving in various capacities at Weather Presenter (1996 – present), Meteorological Forecaster (1996 – 2006), Meteorologist (2006 – 2007), Deputy Director (2016-17), Climatologist (2007- 2019), and now Director. Mr. Destin’s current role as Director requires him to lead, manage, and direct the technical, administrative, and financial affairs of the ABMS to fulfill the Nation’s national, regional, and international responsibilities and obligations.
He lectured at the Antigua State College from 1997 to 2002 (5 years) in Climate Science.
